Mitsubishi Plans Off-Road Outlander Diamond Trail Edition

Automotive ·

The 2028 Outlander Diamond Trail Edition adds a Rock drive mode, black trim and a new green paint. Mitsubishi will show three versions at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Mitsubishi will reveal a more off-road-ready Outlander at next month's SEMA trade show in Las Vegas. The 2028 Outlander Diamond Trail Edition adds a Rock drive mode, tougher exterior parts and exclusive badging.

Car and Driver describes it as the most capable Outlander yet. Mitsubishi has not announced pricing or an on-sale date. Car and Driver expects the trim to start above $45,000, a step above the current Trail Edition, which starts at around $42,500 for the 2027 model year.

Gear and looks

The trim gets all-terrain tires and specialised approach and departure angles built into the front and rear bumpers. Rock mode gives the vehicle more traction to suppress wheelslip and automatically turns on Hill Descent Control.

Outside, the Outlander wears a matte black grille, redesigned bumpers, aggressive fender flares, raised roof rails and 18-inch black alloy wheels with Nexen Roadian ATX tires. A new earthy green, Trail Green Metallic, debuts on this model.

Inside there are dark gray seats with khaki stitching, and matte black, chrome and satin finishes. The seatbacks, floor mats and door trim carry a Diamond Trail Edition logo.

The mark is meant to symbolise athletes on a downhill ski course while echoing Mitsubishi's diamond emblem.

Six vehicles at SEMA

The Outlander is one of six vehicles Mitsubishi plans to show at SEMA under its Momentum 2030 project. The plan aims to boost the brand's North American presence by 2030 and leans heavily on rugged, off-road-ready vehicles.

Three of the six will be Diamond Trail models, each with a slightly more intense list of modifications. The rest of the lineup is the rally-winning AXCR Triton truck, the Delicia D:5 Ultimate Gear van that is currently sold in Japan, and an Outlander Sport Trail Edition.
