Setton Farms Adds Cranberries to Its Dark Chocolate Pistachios

California pistachio grower Setton Farms has extended its chocolate pistachio line with a reformulated Dark Chocolate Pistachios & Cranberries with Sea Salt snack. It comes in 6-ounce resealable bags and will reach T.J. Maxx and Home Goods stores in the coming weeks.

Setton Farms, a family-owned pistachio company from Terra Bella, California, has extended its Chocolate Pistachio with Sea Salt line. The addition is a reformulated product called Dark Chocolate Pistachios & Cranberries with Sea Salt. It combines the company's California pistachios with dried cranberries, dark chocolate and a small amount of sea salt, so that the chewy fruit contrasts with the chocolate and the nuts.

What is in the bag

The company describes the ingredient list as simple; the snack is vegan and Kosher, and one serving provides 3 grams of protein. Setton suggests eating it on its own, adding it to baked goods or putting it on a charcuterie board. Like the rest of the dark chocolate range, it is sold in 6-ounce resealable bags. Executive vice president Joseph Setton joked that, in the company's experience, the bags are usually emptied before anyone needs the reseal. He added that the new packaging matches the Dark Chocolate Pistachios with Sea Salt released earlier this year. Chief operating officer Mia Cohen called the cranberry version a natural next step for the chocolate pistachio line. The product is due in T.J. Maxx and Home Goods stores in the coming weeks.

A family business since 1959

The Setton family has made its Original Dark Chocolate Pistachio for more than 20 years and recently reformulated it as Dark Chocolate Pistachios with Sea Salt. The company has been panning chocolate over various nuts, for bulk sale and retail bags, since 1994. Its history goes back to 1959, when brothers Joshua and Morris Setton opened a bakery in Brooklyn. A group of gourmet stores followed, and later a wholesale business that still operates.

Today Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella ranks second among pistachio grower-processors in the United States and has been producing pistachios in California's Central Valley since 1986. The vertically integrated company sells in bulk, under private labels and at retail around the world. Its range also includes Seasoned Pistachio Kernels in flavors such as Hot Honey, Jalapeño, Buffalo Wing and Scorpion Pepper, an organic line of in-shell and shelled nuts, and dry-roasted in-shell pistachios. The pistachio products are Kosher, vegan, certified gluten free and Non-GMO Project Verified, and some of them carry the American Heart Association's Heart Check mark.
