Shadab's 113 Gives Pakistan One-Wicket Win Over England
Pakistan chased 242 from 154 for nine in Lahore and reached the tri-series final, with Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf batting through the last-wicket stand.
Pakistan beat England by one wicket in Lahore after Shadab Khan hit 113 in an ODI chase that looked lost. The win puts Pakistan in the tri-series final.
England had been all out for 241 with 20 balls left. Ben Duckett scored his fifth ODI century and his first against Pakistan. After Pakistan won the toss and bowled, England's first four wickets fell for 4, 5, 1 and 6. Duckett and Curran then added 93 before Shaheen Shah Afridi came back on and Curran fell to a shorter ball. England's last five wickets added 96.
Tom Banton fell early, clipping Afridi to cover for the bowler's 150th ODI wicket. Harry Brook, fresh from 202 against Sri Lanka, was run out coming back for a second run after a pick-up and throw from Razaullah. Jordan Cox was caught at slip by Babar Azam, diving to his right. Pakistan played in the West Indies World Series salmon pink shirts for breast cancer.
The chase began badly for Pakistan. Gus Atkinson took Fakhar Zaman in the fifth over, and debutant Crocombe removed Saim Ayub. Atkinson bowled Babar Azam, who had hit a pure off-drive in front of his home crowd. Saad Baig made 32 before Jacks caught him at backward point.
Pakistan slipped to 154 for nine, 88 short, and queues were forming at the exits. Shadab and number 11 Haris Rauf then began to hit boundaries. Shadab was given out lbw on 97 and slammed his bat into the turf, but a review showed an inside edge. Shadab finished on 113.
The game came after Thursday's match, which produced 859 runs. England have now watched a sure thing slip away for the second time in four days.
England still have a route to the final. They need Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka on Tuesday and then beat Sri Lanka themselves on Thursday.
